3 Day Refresh While Breastfeeding

The time had finally came.  My 3 Day Refresh box has been staring at me for the last couple months.  This past 13 month since having my 3rd baby have been an emotional roller coaster of working on maintaining my milk supply and also finding a new fitness routine and sticking to a healthy nutrition plan all while the demands of having a baby and nursing cravings!

As many know I haven't consumed dairy (intentionally) in the last 13 months which is incredibly hard for me but my daughter doesn't tolerate dairy, my boys were the same way and they grew out of it by time they turned 2.  I am big on clean eating but stick with my 80/20 lifestyle.  It has just become a way of life over the last couple years but as life got busier and now that my daughter turned 1 I feel like my hormones are trying to balance back out - or go completely out of whack - I am not really sure.  We are still nursing and I've found myself craving crackers, chips, salty, crunchy etc.  Then I found myself giving into those cravings and a couple weeks ago it was more like 60/40 instead of 80/20 and I was feeling it.  My sleep was off, my skin started breaking out, my workouts were harder to get through, and I was starting to wake up with small headaches.  Something had to give!

I put off the refresh all these months mainly due to me nursing.  The total calorie consumption for the day is around 900 which is much lower than my normal, however I felt since I had an established supply and knowing that it doesn't contain dairy I decided I would give it a go and really up my water intake and if I felt hungry I would allow myself and extra serving of fruit or veggies.  I will always tell others to consult with your Dr. before starting anything new, especially when nursing and by that I mean a nutritionist!  However I am a huge advocate for the power of nutrition and discipline so I knew this was exactly what I needed to break this bad cycle I was in.

So the 3 day refresh is designed to give you fast, clean, and efficient weight loss.  You can quickly drop a few pounds, break a bad habit and get back on track!  It's 3 shakes a day, a fiber drink, plenty of water, fresh fruits, veggies, and healthy fats so that you keep your energy and  your metabolism going.  It is not a juice or fasting diet but a healthy diet that is going to give your body nutrition vs starvation.

Now if we're going to be completely honest the reason I put it off so long is because I suck at cleanses.  Mentally I shoot myself down before I even start.  I have heard great things about the refresh and I love that you can eat actual food!  I essentially forced my husband to join me so I didn't cave, ha!  Day 1 wasn't terrible but my husband and I were working on a project and mentally adjusting so we were a bit snappy and come evening of day 1 I was craving anything and everything bad for me so I went to bed.  Day 2 I had a slight headache (I detox hard) but by noon I was feeling much better!  Evening of Day 2 I had SO MUCH energy and I slept great that night.  Day 3 I was ready to wrap it up but I was pretty excited about how I was feeling and watching my stomach bloat disappear!

Overall it was a great experience.  I lost 2.6 lbs which I wasn't worried in the slightest about losing weight, I was focused on curbing those cravings, reducing the toxicity crap was putting in my body, and my body reacting to good clean foods again.  My skin improved significantly and as I mentioned I slept better.  It just proved even more how powerful nutrition is in our daily activities, that we typically take for granted.

My milk supply maintained great, we didn't notice any decrease and the baby didn't react to anything I consumed.  Knowing it was dairy free was a relief for me!  Please remember this is MY journey and experience, I did not go into this looking to lose any weight, I simply wanted to feel like I knew I should and needed a reboot to my system!

Clean Eating Banana Bread

Hello Fall ... kind of ... not really.  It is still 102 here in Arizona but it's September and my Pinterest is full of fun fall outfits and decor and the aroma of banana bread is filling my house.  So I am going to live in this moment and pretend it isn't blaring hot outside.

We all know as soon as Sept. 1 hits it's pumpkin spice everything and the colors in the stores turn different shades of orange and brown.  Listen I am a summer girl through and through but with my kids in year round school and my husbands not so traditional schedule this is the time of year my gypsy soul takes over and I am itching to get out of the desert.

I am just blabbering now so I will get to my point.  My son's bff LOVES banana bread, my son USED to love all things banana, it was the only food he would eat for the longest time, however in the past three years I can count on one hand how many banana's I have seen him touch.  Alas, he found a friend that loves banana bread and he tried some at his house because we all know kids are much  more compliant when at others homes.  So at his request (HALLELUJAH) we are making banana bread.  I am however gambling ... I am not making traditional banana bread because lets be real, I don't have all the ingredients, the baby is napping, and I am avoiding the grocery store for at least two more days!  So that being said I am whipping up a "clean eating" version of banana bread.  I am sorta winging it ... so bare with me.  If you know me you know I live for taking recipes and making them clean just to see if it can be done!!

Here is the recipe I used.

Clean Eating Banana Bread

3 Ripe Bananas
1 tspn vanilla
1 tspn baking soda
3 eggs
1.5 c oats
1/4 c honey/maple syrup

Bake at 350 for 45 min

*OPTIONAL ITEMS
1 tspn cinnamon
choc chips
walnuts

It came out a little more brown than I prefer but the inside is nice and moist!!  I will garnish more for look next time but the kids gave the thumbs up!!

We have tried other recipes that I am sure to most at probably good but I despise greek yogurt, I have tried a hundred times to like it and it just isn't happening.  If you do however there are many great recipes to make moist and cleaner versions using that and or apple sauce and whole wheat flour etc.

We are not a "gluten free" family however we have found we just function and feel better when we limit gluten and choose whole grains or whole wheat.

Shakeology For Migraines

Wow, I can honestly say I have wanted to write this post for so long but I wasn't really sure how to go about it.  You see I suffered for YEARS with migraines, they started out pretty few and far between but quickly escalated to monthly and then weekly and sometimes daily.  Not just a head ache that you slowly move through your day with.  They were debilitating.  No light.  No sound. No movement. Someday's it hurt to breath and in sets the panic and next thing you know your in the emergency room ... AGAIN.  Getting more prescriptions, pain pills, and tips when you know none of them work but you are so desperate at that point.  Then you get two shots in your butt and in a short time later you sense that you can move your body enough to get back to the car and go home and go straight the bed.  Oh wait, you have a newborn and a 1 yr old so life can't just stop dead in its tracks multiple days in a week.

It was a never ending vicious cycle that I personally lived.  The days you felt normal were spent playing catch up.  Work, kids, house, etc.  If you have ever dealt with a migraine, even just one, you will understand the emotion behind this post.

Everyday my kids would see me take medicine to start my day.  Every day was different.  Could be preventative, could be because I felt on coming on, or it could be a crap its here and I have to do what I can to get through today because I have to take care of the kids.  Everyday, that is the first thing they saw their Mom doing.  JUST TO FUNCTION.  I honestly could write a book about this but at the age of 24, I said no more, you can read more of that story HERE.  For now I want to share with you information that I stumbled across in the craziest of ways but have been obsessed with learning more ever since.

How staggering is this?  Every year it is estimated that employers lose 13 BILLION in lost work days due to migraines. Not a big shocker if you take into consideration that 36 million people in America suffer from migraines.  According to the Migraine Research Foundation, there are three times as many women than men who suffer from these headaches and other associated symptoms.

However, there may be hope for you as there was for me.  My natruopath recommended Shakeology to me, although there are no clinical trials that indicate Shakeology will or won't reduce your migraine symptoms there are plenty of customer testimonials who will attest to how their daily shake has helped them.  Some no longer need any meds (ME) and others who haven't experienced a migraine since drinking Shakeology.  Others have seen them greatly reduced.

I suffered from migraines for years. Went through numerous exams, tests and different doctors. I was on Imitrex, Maxalt, you name it. Also to mention I was on ADHD (Strattera) and anxiety medicationsShakeology also played a good part in it. I slowly weaned off the medications and have been medication free since January 2010 and use natural remedies if I do have bad migraine spells which don't happen as often as before. It has been pretty rare that I get migraines/headaches.-

I have been on Shakeology for two months, I drink it every day. I have had to carry around a prescription for my migraines for the past few years because I was having them almost weekly. I have not had a migraine in almost two months - I don't think this is a coincidence. - VitaminDee

I have suffered from migraines for 15+ years. I would get approx. 2-3 migraines every month. This was mainly due to blood sugar levels being out of whack. I often skip breakfast and I know that that definitely had something to do with it. I started drinking Shakeology in August and I drink it in the morning (breakfast). Since then, I've had one minor migraine. - Lisa Blinn

“I’ve been taking Excedrin daily for years due to headaches and migraines. Since I started drinking Shakeology® daily five weeks ago, I rarely have ANY headaches. Geez…the money I’ve saved on medicine, alone, is worth it! Not to mention, I hardly have any cravings,” commented Josephine.

My Husband and I both suffer from migraines...and he has had NONE since starting Shakeology 2 months ago and I've only had one!
I have taken Imitrex, Maxalt, Fiorinal... haven't had to take any of them in 2 months!

Shakeology has the power of nutrition to fuel and power your body with essential vitamins and minerals needed to properly function.  Doctors and medical professionals chalk migraines up to be just neurological disorders, you may experience a decrease in symptoms by drinking Shakeology.  They say it can't be cured but it may help limit the frequency or eliminate them all together.  With a 30 day money back guarantee, what do you have to lose?
