This trip was a trip of a lifetime for multiple reasons but the biggest ... since I was little, I am talking like 5 years old the one trip I heard my Mom talk about was flying to New York, walking down 5th Ave, going to Time Square, and just soaking in the city. There was NO specific reason for her desire to go there other than it was just planted in her heart. My Mom is always helping others, puts others before herself every day of her life. Like she is LIFE GOALS when it comes to how you want to be remembered. So when my sister called me and said "we need to take Mom to NY this year" I was bursting with happiness because I had just been telling my husband I wanted to get my Mom to NY as soon as we could.
So my sisters and I chatted for months, bought plane tickets, booked a condo, planned out events and decided we would wing the rest. My Dad was in on the whole thing but my Mom was in the dark about the whole thing and it made for THE BEST surprise I have ever seen. I wasn't there for Christmas when we surprised her but I was like Skype when she opened her gift -- Check out the video here!!
We opted for an April visit -- coming from AZ I was planning to be freezing (based on the weather predictions) but we had THE BEST WEATHER our entire trip!! Skylinn has been a jet setting baby since she was 6 weeks old but this was our longest flight and she was THE best companion!! While she won't remember it I took lots of photo's for her.
Being the total foodie that I am -- its a family trait -- we were on the hunt for the perfect pizza, street stand hot dogs, cheese cake, and canoli's!! Majority of this trip revolved around food but when on vaca, am I right!? While I doubt we found the best pizza or hot dogs the city had to offer Junior's did not dissapoint on their cheesecake. No joke I spent a couple hundred dollars there in 5 days ... whoops!! It was to DIE FOR!!! There whole line up for desserts really was amazing.
Never being to Ny, booking a room with zero reviews, trusting the management when they tell you that it was brand new renovation and we are sure to love it, not knowing the area at all ... it is safe to say we took a risk! Risk is where the reward is and let me tell you, our condo was a reward!! Not only was it newly renovated but it had views for days and we were right in Manhattan. STUNNING. They also have an amazing community room on the 39th floor with views for days. We had a 2 bedroom corner unit, it was so spacious, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and a cozy living room! It really was perfect for the 6 of us! Location was important as we planned on walking everywhere (pictures of how that went coming soon) We have stayed in several Wyndham locations but never through a VRBO or never not on a beach!! Safe to say they did not skim over a detail in the big apple!! Again we booked through VRBO but you can check out where we stayed here!!
I feel like we accomplished so much on this trip. Not only was it so much fun to see my Mom fulfilling this lifetime dream trip, I was able to take my babe with me, spend so much time with my sisters, and explore such a beautiful city. We ate a lot of good food, bought city tour bus passes (probably the best decision we made), saw the Statue Of Liberty, took a pedi cab through Central Park, we visited Good Morning America, visited the plaza hotel (we are HUGE Home Alone fans) so we also visited the tunnel in Central Park, we took our first Subway ride (interesting to say the least with a stroller but thanks to one of NY finest for appeasing us with tips and details so we could say we did it, we took a bus trip over the bridge (sitting on the top open part is a must), a few of the girls went to see Matilda, we went to Time Square, visited Carlos Bakery, ate our weight in canolli's and cheesecake, serendipity, an amazing candy factory, and walked and walked until our feet couldn't take it anymore!!! I am sure I am missing pieces of it but all in all we had a blast!!! I can not WAIT to take my kiddo's back there for a Christmas time trip. I can only imagine the cities festive spirit and twinkling lights. Safe to say that is a bucket list trip for me and my family!! I hope your ready for picture overload!!
If you've been wanting to see the city -- while I am glad we waited for the sole reason of we had a blast and my baby was able to come along, it is crazy to me that we waited for so long and we were so nervous to navigate the city. Everyone we came across was more than accommodating to us with a baby and being total tourists!!
Have you been to the city at Christmas time or maybe you live there? Is it all its hyped up to be, because this trip in April definitely was all that we imagined it would be so I am really hoping the hype is real for the holidays and I can get all my kids and husband back there for it. What else must we do/see during that time of year?
